MAGNETIC HEMATITE AND STONE INFORMATION

MAGNETIC HEMATITE

Hematite is derived from the Greek word for blood since it can be red in color. The powdery mineral was used 164,000 years ago and is one of the earliest used minerals in the history of mankind.

Hematite residue is found in old grave yards as far back as 80,000 years and mines for its production date back to 5000 BC. The spectral signature of hematite was seen on the planet mars and exploration rovers were targeted to investigate.

Hematite jewelry reached a high popularity in Europe during the victorian era and has recently made a strong resurgence in north america. Hematine is a synthetic artificial magnetic materal sold as magnetic hematite and is currently widely used in jewelry.

STONE PENDANTS

Amethyst Pendant:

Amethyst's name comes from the ancient Greek's who believed that the stone protected its owners from drunkenness - thus one finds wine goblets carved from it. The Egyptians used the amethyst as a gemstone while medieval european soldiers wore amethyst amulets as protection in battle, for healing purposes and to keep them cool-headed.

In general amethyst is considered the stone of protection. It is also considered the traditional birthstone for February and in the birthstone it represents deep and pure love.

CRYSTAL PENDANT:

The name crystal is derived from the ancient Greek words meaning both ice, rock crystal and icy cold, frost. The earth's solid bedrock makes up the largest concentration of crystal by weight and volume. The crystal is considered to be a healing and spiritual stone by many.

CITRINE:

Its name comes from the Latin word citrina which means"yellow". Most citrine is heat-treated amethyst with natural citrine rarely occuring.

Citrine ranges in color from a goldish-yellow to brown and is a variety of quartz. Citrine is considered to enhance the body's healing energy. Diminishes self-destructive tendencies and create a powerful alignment with higher self.

AGATES:

The stone was initially given its name by Theophrastus, a Greek philosopher and naturalist around the 4th and 3rd century BC. It had a use in the ancient world as a common material in the art of hardstone carving and has been found at locations over 3000 years ago. It was used by the Greek's for making jewelry and beads and used by the Sumerians and the Egyptians who used the gem for decoration and playing important parts in their religious ceremonies.

Most agates occur in volcanic rocks where they represent cavities in the molten mass which were then filled wholly or partially by siliceous matter deposited in regular layers upon the walls. Agates are considered to impart a sense of strength and courage as well as being a powerful healer.

The Roman's made their jewelry out of agate over 2000 years ago and would give them as a gift. When given it represented the gift of health and wealth.

ROSE QUARTZ:

A type of quartz that has a pink to rose red color. The color is usually considered as due to trace amounts of titanium, iron or manganese in the massive material.

Rose Quartz is considered the "Love Stone" and aids in the development of forgiveness, compassion and love.

***These are all ancient stones with meanings that have traveled through time. By owning a rock shop I've been asked many times if I believe all these meanings. All I could ever say was, I don't really know for a fact, I'm just a guy that likes to play in the dirt. I've always been amazed at the beauty of the stone that one could dig out of the dirt and the ability to take something rough and turn it into a work of art.***
